The Malaysian Medical Association is the largest association that represents all doctors in our country. It was formed in 1959 and currently, we have 13,000 members. The aim of joining is to stay united under one roof and be represented. It is your only voice.....a doctor's voice!!

BENEFITS
CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (CME)
CME points in future will be important in renewal
of the Annual Practicing Certificate. Non-members have to pay an annual
fee of RM50.00 for registration of CME points with the Malaysian Medical
Council. For MMA members, this is done for you absolutely free.
PUBLICATIONS
The monthly issue of BERITA MMA keeps you abreast of what's happening to the medical profession. The MEDICAL JOURNAL OF MALAYSIA, the main journal of the association whose articles are indexed in the INDEX MEDICUS will be sent to you (upon request). The SINGAPORE MEDICAL JOURNAL can be subscribed directly from the Singapore Medical Association. The details are as follows :

The Government doctors section of the MMA. Problems
can be channeled through your representatives at the State and National
levels. The ExCo meets officials from the Ministry of Health, Jabatan Perkhidmatan
Awam (JPA), etc. on a regular basis. MMA is your voice!! YOUR CALL ALLOWANCES

PPSMMA (PRIVATE PRACTITIONERS SECTION OF MMA)
The private doctors section of the MMA. Looks
after the welfare of doctors in the private sector. Advise on getting started
in private practice and a voice for the important policy issues affecting
private sector doctors.
DIRECT ACCESS CREDIT CARDS
Visa and Master cards (basic and gold) are available
with no joining or annual fee - a saving up to RM200.00 annually. Supplementary
cards are also available on similar terms.
MMA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
You get unrecorded leave to attend. Meet old and
new friends from other States. Lots of fun and laughter, activities, banquets
and discussions on important issues affecting our community and profession.
Spouses and kids are included.
MMA FOUNDATION
Offers RM10,000 for those attempting Part 2 postgraduate
exams and those in the Master's Programme at an interest of 6%. You start
paying RM300.00 monthly only 6 months after the loan commences.
MMA BENEVOLENT FUND
All paid up members and life members can nominate
a person to whom a death benefit of RM1,500 will be paid.
WORKSHOPS ON CONTEMPORARY ISSUES
You will be invited to attend workshops on current
contemporary issues such as Health Financing, Restructuring of Public Health
Sector, Liberalization of Professional Health Services with respect to
Globalization, etc.
INSURANCE SERVICES
A special motor insurance deal with AON (formerly
Alexander & Alexander) has been undertaken. Amazing features - NO EXCESS
and NO LOADING. For Klang Valley residents, there is also IMMEDIATE AUTHORISATION
OF VEHICLE REPAIRS. You even get a car for RM45.00 per day, while your
car is in the workshop, if available.
MEDICO-LEGAL DEFENCE
MMA assists in arranging medico-legal and coverage,
namely Medical Protection Society and Malaysian Medical Indemnity Insurance

Community service projects, games, fellowships,
etc.
SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES
Available at the MMA House for a subsidized fee
of only RM45.00 per night. This is subject to conditions.

with a copy of your Malaysian Medical Council Registration Certificate.
HOW MUCH TO PAY?
SUBSCRIPTIONS
1) The rate of annual subscriptions payable by each category of membership shall be:
i) Ordinary Membership
RM250.00 per annum
Joint Ordinary
Member (spouse) RM125.00 per annum
TOTAL RM375.00 per annum
ii) Overseas Member RM500.00 per annum
iii) Associate Member RM250.00 per annum
iv) Student Member
RM20.00 per annum
Life Membership Contributions
i)
An Ordinary Member who completes the Life Membership upon paying RM4,000.00
to the capital of the Special Savings Investment Fund is eligible for election
by Council as a Life Member. Article III (2) refers.
ii) An
Ordinary Member who is a spouse of a Life Member shall contribute half
of RM4,000.00 to qualify for Life Membership as follows:
Life Member RM4,000.00 one-off payment
Joint Life Member (spouse) RM2,000.00 one-off payment
TOTAL
RM6,000.00 one-off payment
WHEN TO JOIN?
Membership is effective from 1st January annually, so it is advisable to join early in the year.

MEMBERSHIP / FEES
BY - LAW III - SUBSCRIPTIONS - with effect from
01-01-1996

A. The rate of annual subscriptions payable by
each category of membership shall be :
1. Life Membership RM 4,000.00
Joint Life Membership RM 2,000.00
Total =RM 6,000.00
2. Ordinary Membership RM 200.00 p.a.
Joint Ordinary Membership RM 100.00 p.a.
Total =RM 300.00 p.a.
3. Overseas Membership RM 200.00 p.a.
4. Associate Membership RM 200.00 p.a.
5. Student Membership RM 30.00( as one
payment to cover the period of undergraduate study.)
B. Reduction of Subscription
The Council may reduce annual subscriptions for members as follows :
RM 50.00 for members who are provisionally registered
with the MMC and working as House Doctors.
RM 100.00 for all doctors for first ten (10)
years after housemanship.
RM 100.00 for spouses of Ordinary Members, Life
Members and Overseas Members.
RM 100.00 for new members in any category of
membership specified in By - Law III (1) (except student members) enrolled
in the period 1st. July to 31st. Dec., the reduction being for the year
only.
RM 100.00 for Ordinary Members on temporary leave
overseas for more than one whole financial year (1st. January to 31st.
Dec.) provided that the member applies within 3 months of leaving Malaysia.
C. Life Membership Contributions
An ordinary member who completes the Life Membership
contributions of RM 4,000.00 to the capital of the Special Savings Life
Investment Fund is eligible for election by Council as a Life Member. The
contributions shall be paid by equal monthly instalments over a period
of 20 months. Article III (2) refers.
An ordinary member who is a spouse of a Life
Member shall contribute half of RM4,000.00 to qualify for Life Membership
D. Members Not Gainfully Employed
i) The Council may waive annual subscriptions
for members who are in good standing and are no more gainfully employed
due to illness or disability.
ii) A medical practitioner who has been an Ordinary
member in good standing of at least 20 years and has attained the age of
65 shall be eligible for exemption from further payment of annual subscription
of the Association.
E. By - Law IV
Arrears of Subscriptions
(1) Members whose subscriptions are in arrears
for 3 months on 31st March shall receive one reminder to pay by A.R. Registered
letter and those in arrears for 6 months on 30th June shall automatically
have their names removed from the membership register and cease to be members
of the association.
(2) Ordinary Members in arrears of subscription
for six 6 months on 30th June each year shall automatically have their
names removed from the Electoral Roll and shall not be eligible to vote.
(3) The Association reserves the right to institute
legal action to recover the arrears of subscriptions from those members
whose subscriptions have fallen into six (6) months arrears and shall reserve
the right to publish the names of members in arrears in the Association's
publications.
ARTICLE IV SUBSCRIPTIONS
(3) A member in benefit is a member who is not in arrears of subscription for not more than 6 months; provided that a member in arrears for more than six (6) months on the 30th June shall automatically cease to be a member under Article VI 1 (ii)
ARTICLE VI TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP
(1)(ii) Automatically on the 30th June of that year when the members annual membership subscription falls into arrears for more than six (6) months.
BY LAW V
(1) TERRITORY OF BRANCH
(i) The territory of each Branch shall be the geographical boundaries of each State or Federal Territory, except for the Kedah/Perlis Branch which shall be the territories of the two States and Sabah Branch which shall include Federal Territory of Labuan.
(ii) The place of work of a member in a State or the Federal Territory shall determine the Branch of the Association to register his/her membership.
